My name is Risa Simon. I’m the founder of KidneyKinships.org, The Proactive Path and the TransplantFirst Academy, three separate platforms that believe in optimizing quality of life.

Melissa’s Game-Changing Gift

I’m also a kidney transplant recipient and I know what it’s like to need a replacement kidney. I also know what it’s like to receive this extraordinary life-saving gift. I owe this great life (I now live) to the selfless act of one person – Melissa Blevins Bein, my “game changing” living kidney donor.

Because of Melissa’s heroic act of human kindness, I’m able to help tens of thousands of kidney patients behind me. This is where “Be a Living, Life-Saving Hero. Donate A Kidney.” comes into play.

Through this campaign, you’ll see the special hearts and smiles behind this life-saving movement. As you’ll see, we don’t use stock art to share our message. We want others to be inspired by real life living kidney donors. You will continue to see the faces of other brave, life-saving living kidney donors as our campaign expands. These donors are anxiously waiting to show the world what they’ve achieved in the hopes of inspiring others to follow their lead.

We believe their billboard presence has the power to inspire healthy individuals to lean in their direction and follow their lead. Our hope is to encourage others to be inspired by these real life-saving heroes as they consider the possibility for themselves. Our slogan objective is 3-fold: to have our ad’s eyeballs: “Admire. Copy. Repeat.”

We believe that this campaign has the power to dramatically impact the lives of over 100,000 people who wait, in desperate need of a replacement kidney. The average wait for a deceased donor’s kidney is about 5 years. In some regions, however, the wait can be nearly double that.

Why Is This Important

Twelve people die every day while waiting due to our nation’s organ shortage. These unfortunate deaths could be avoided through living kidney donation. But wait. There’s more! Living kidney donation not only ends the unpredictable, life-threatening wait—it also improves transplant success factors and long term outcomes for the recipient.

Our Target Goal

Our campaign goal is simple: To increase awareness and participation in Living Kidney Donation (LKD). Ultimately this campaign will inspire healthy, goodhearted individuals to learn more so they can consider becoming someone’s life-saving hero too.

Our Hope

By referring individuals to www.kidneykinships.org to get unbiased answers to frequently asked questions, our hope is that they will learn more and contemplate the process themselves. Interested parties can simply pick up the phone and call a transplant center in their area to learn more about testing and qualification procedures. There’s plenty of transplant centers who would love to meet them. Likewise, there are over 100,000 kidney patients that pray someday they’ll receive this life-saving gift. The triggering event generated from this awareness campaign holds significant impact.

Is There An Upside For The Kidney Donor?

While there are no trophies or medals, parties or parades or suitcases of money; there’s a lot to be said about the perpetual joy that comes from knowing someone risked your life to save another. Donors continue to claim that the gift they receive comes in the knowing that they contributed to another person’s “human-life gain.” To them, it was (and continues to be) the most rewarding payback of all.

So, why should you donate money to this campaign?

I guess you could say that it’s all about the “feel good.”

Funding Goal – Phase 1:

Our goal is to raise $50,000 to put up billboards in specific cities across America. We’re starting in Phoenix and your donation could very well kick start our inaugural board, if not direct the next location. One 100% of the funds we receive will be going to the production costs and billboard space rentals. We do not have a paid staff, nor do I (Risa) get paid to do this. I’m simply rewarded by your intentions.
